Overview
The Ara Project initiated a Great Green macaw reintroduction project in the South Caribbean region of Costa Rica near Manzanillo in a national wildlife refuge. After 8 years of successful reintroduction of Great Green Macaw (Ara Ambiguus) into their natural habitat, the program has introduced 45 green macaws in captivity into the natural habitat.
Currently this program continues to release macaws raised in captivity, provide feeding, rescue some that are in danger, and monitor their health and behavior.
