This event is based around turtles' nesting and is where the turtles test their strength, patience, and courage. For hours they lay their eggs, then cover them carefully and make their way back to the sea. The event length can be from 8:00 pm – 10:00 pm or 10:00 pm – 12:00 am, it depends on the National Park. Tortuguero is considered the most important place in the western Caribbean for the Green Turtles' (Chelonia mydas) nesting. The green turtles' nesting is one of the most interesting, natural phenomena you can see here in Costa Rica. The process is considered the most critical period in the biological cycle of the turtle since the females have to go to the beaches in large quantities and during fixed times. These concentrations and the difficulty of travel on the sand, make these species very vulnerable to humans and other predators. That is the reason why the Tortuguero National Park is interested in the protection of these marine species. There is no doubt this is an experience that you should not miss when visiting the Tortuguero area.
