Sustainable Tourism

An industry committed to making a low impact on the environment and local culture, while helping to create income and employment for local people is called Sustainable Tourism. The intend of sustainable tourism is to guarantee that development is a positive experience for local people; tourism companies and tourists themselves.

The continuing international tourism growth, ranging between three and six percent annually, highlight this activity as one of the world's largest and fastest growing industries. This continuous expansion places great stress on remaining biologically diverse habitats and indigenous cultures. Tourists who promote sustainable tourism are receptive to these dangers and seek to protect tourist destinations and tourism as an industry.

We, at Horizontes, are committed to lessen these impacts and to help in the recovering of our nature by helping different organizations on their projects. We are also dedicated to enhance the traditions of our country which are somehow, endangered species as well by the influence of foreigners. We encourage all Horizontes family members to promote local and typical food, to attend town fairs and farmers markets. Also to celebrate holidays and homage of important historical and religious festivities (religion has a very strong influence in country´s cultures) and to utilize the richness of our language!

Not only our staff observe these efforts but also our travel partners from different countries, who are always informed by us of different ways to protect the culture of the countries they promote along with Costa Rica. Our tourists are carefully taught by our field guides, about the protection of our culture and nature and they take this information home, calling their fellow neighbors´ attention, since this is an effort that keep diversity alive and enrich the tourist experience.
