Town Fairs

Town FairsWhile visiting Costa Rica, you may happen bump into a town fairs, called fiestas patronales which are organized in honor of the patron saint of the region.

These fairs are annual celebrations of culture, and usually bring carnival rides, food stands and school bands out for a week long of events. Perhaps the most well known of the fiestas patronales are in the small town of Palmares, about one hour west of San Jose in the province of Alajuela. This two-week event in January brings big name concerts, and draws people from throughout the country.
