Wilfrid Aiello

Wilfrid AielloAlso known as just “Will” in Horizontes, he always offers a permanent smile, a warm greeting and a happy thought, which illustrate his optimism and congeniality with every member of the Horizontes family. This is the secret of holding everybody together in the Horizontes family!

A Chemical Engineer from the University of Costa Rica holding also an Executive Master´s Degree from INCAE, our GM´s experience in tourism started at Horizontes. Besides developing several projects as independent consultant, his corporate background in Coca Cola Interamerican for many years, as well as in Aerocasillas (a local courier company) provided him with the necessary knowledge for updating and adapting Horizontes to a formal organizational model.

A strong passion for photography combined with his love for Costa Rica, make Will deliver amazing pictures of the abundant nature, picturesque villages and hospitable people of this country. Every photo magazine or Web Site is always in his check list feeding him with a wide array of information of how to take the best shots!

A consummated tennis player, Will is on the court during sunrise, charging batteries for the new journey, and sometimes, losing the game against his wife Patricia Rodríguez. Aiello also enjoys playing basketball with his sons Esteban (21) and Andrés (19) who are regular players in their corresponding league teams.

 

Patricia Forero

Patricia ForeroJust after graduation with a bachelor´s degree in Education emphasized in Pre-school, Patricia Forero funded her first company: Mi Pequeño Mundo, a kindergarten located in Heredia, just 11 kms from San Jose, with a starting population of 22 children, most of them, sons and daughters of her closest friends. After ten years of operation, Patricia finally answered her sister´s call to be part of Horizontes and decided to close the preschool experience and adventure herself in the fascinating world of tourism!

Today, Patricia is one of the owners of Horizontes, in charge of the Research and Development department, and the managing of Fundación Horizontes, which opened its doors early on 2009. “The” expert in Costa Rica, her country knowledge is the product of periodically on going inspections to all popular and unknown destinations within this beautiful land. She keeps very good track of all hotels that she has visited as well as all the tours she has been part of.

Because of her deep love for nature and culture, Forero is an industry leader in promoting Sustainability and Social Corporate Responsibility, being invited to speak about this subject in several forums, locally and internationally.

Carlos (23) and Alexandra (19) are her children, the first one pursuing a career in management in Universidad Interamericana de Costa Rica and the second one, studying fashion merchandising in Buenos Aires, Argentina. She share her life with her husband, Fernando Quevedo, an avid entrepreneur in the food and beverage field.

 

Federico Calderón

Federico CalderónThe youngest of the company executives is Federico Calderón, in charge of the Administrative and Finance Department. Being a perfectionist and well organized, “Fede” also manages the processes linking all the different areas as a result of a company re-organization, delivering a fantastic result!

With a bachelor´s degree in Business Administration emphasized in accounting from the University of San José, and Project Management from Tech Institute of Cartago, Calderón is currently an advanced English student in the Costa Rican-North American Cultural Center.

He has a vast experience in the corporate world, coming from CSU, a regional multinational super market company (now under the Wal-Mart umbrella) where he developed several projects such as Express Delivery and Food Safety. Horizontes has also opened the door to the tourism industry for him.

Always training as a marathoner, Fede has competed in many races all over Costa Rica and is planning to attend international matches. He can also be found on weekends dancing tropical music with his girl friend Vivian, hiking in the forest or just hanging out with his friends at the beach.

Federico lives in Tibas, just 10 minutes North of downtown San José and as many Costa Ricans, is a big fan of La Liga, one of the major futbol teams!

 

Luigi Quesada

Patricia ForeroLuigi is our Commercial Advisor and Hotel Consultant.

The youngest son of coffee farmers in Heredia —known as the “City of Flowers”— Luigi Quesada set out to see the world at an early age. At 13 he traveled to Denver, Colorado, for three months as an exchange student and later spent his junior year of high school studying in Girard, Kansas. In addition to speaking English and Spanish (his native tongue), Luigi is a student of Italian and French.

Luigi has a bachelor’s degree from a private tourism college and holds a MBA in marketing from Laureate Universidad Interamericana. During his studies, he began a 24 year career in the hotel industry, starting as a receptionist at the Cariari Hotel before reaching positions of General Manager in some of Costa Rica’s finest hotels in San José, Manuel Antonio, Arenal and Rincon de la Vieja. He has also taught hotel management at the university level and has attended hospitality training courses in Bordeaux, France, and Bangkok, Thailand.

In his free time, Luigi loves swimming and racquetball and all outdoor activities, such hiking, rafting, kayaking and biking. A talented guitar player, Luigi often gets the party started by leading sing-alongs of classic Costa Rican tunes, and, of course, the Beatles.

 

Horizontes is a proud member of The International Ecotourism Society (TIES), Adventure Travel Trade Association (ATTA), Costa Rica’s National Tourism Chamber (CANATUR), Costa Rica Tour Operator’s Association (ACOT), Costa Rica’s National Ecotourism Chamber (CANAECO), Adventure Travel Media Source, and FUTUROPA. Horizontes is fully licensed with the Costa Rican Tourist Board (ICT) and has been certified with the highest level of the CST with Five Leaves (Certification for Sustainable Tourism).

 

Horizontes and Rainforest Alliance have established an alliance to work with suppliers in Best Management Practices in Sustainable Tourism Program since December 8, 2005. Horizontes supports MarViva´s efforts in protecting and supporting the management of Marine Protected Areas, Habitat for Humanity in promoting the community development through housing solutions, World Heritage Alliance seeking to encourage the identification, protection and preservation of cultural and natural heritage and supports the Tourism Code of Ethics Campaign, to protect children and adolescents from Sexual Exploitation.
