Sponsorships and Support

Aside from doing what we can in the field and in our offices to: protect our natural resources; support rural communities, and conserve our wilderness areas, Horizontes is proud to support a number of worthy organizations that contribute to the betterment of Costa Rica’s local people and wildlife:

  • Neotropica Foundation: The Neotropica Foundation is a private, not-for-profit Costa Rican organization founded in 1985 that provides the technical, scientific and financial means to promote and develop alternative production methods and provide for sustainable management of natural resources and protection of biodiversity. www.neotropica.org
  • Organization for Tropical Studies (OTS): www.ots.duke.edu The Organization for Tropical Studies is a non-profit consortium that has grown to include 63 universities and research institutions from the United States, Latin America and Australia. OTS was founded to provide leadership in education, research and the responsible use of natural resources in the tropics. To address this mission, OTS conducts graduate and undergraduate education, facilitates research, participates in tropical forest conservation, maintains three biological stations in Costa Rica and conducts environmental education programs.
  • Terra Nostra Association: A grass roots non-profit Costa Rican organization, Terra Nostra works to improve the quality of life of local Costa Ricans by organizing educational, scientific, artistic and cultural activities that spread awareness about waste management and the use of water. Its activities aim to instill a sense of citizen involvement and empowerment through education. Terra Nostra brings communities together for beach and river clean ups that can help reduce Dengue and other water-borne diseases that affect nearby communities.
  • We have also given generously to local and international organizations including Caribbean Conservation Corporation, which is fighting to save sea turtles that nest on Costa Rica's Atlantic Coast; Fundación Yiski, which sponsors an annual nation wide beach clean up and specializes in environmental education about solid waste issues.
