With the prestigious halls of New York’s American Museum of Natural History as a backdrop, Horizontes Nature Tours proudly accepted Rainforest Alliance’s “Corporate Green Globe” award this month at the organization’s 16th Annual gala in celebration of individuals and companies who are playing a key role in promoting sustainable livelihoods while conserving forests and biodiversity. “We are thrilled to honor change-makers,” said Tensie Whelan, Director of the New York-based, Rainforest Alliance. “The level of their commitment is transforming the marketplace, making sustainable consumption part of the norm.” Rainforest Alliance presented Horizontes with its Corporate Green Globe for distinguished work to help spread awareness about sustainable practices among its suppliers and for developing policies that will help lessen impact on the environment, create opportunities for communities and sustain business opportunities for the future. Other corporate awardees include the National Federation of Colombian Coffee Growers, Japan-based food and beverage business UCC Ueshima Coffee Company, and ECOM / Atlantic (USA), one of the world's oldest agricultural products processing and merchandising companies. “We believe this is the only direction for the tourism industry and for all industry,” said Wilfrid Aiello, Horizontes General Manager. “This honor is shared with all our partners and staff who are helping us improve our practices and reduce our impact on the planet,” added Tamara Budowski, Horizontes President.
