Hotel Torremolinos - 1 night
Days 2 - 4

Tortuguero: After a good nights rest and a hearty breakfast of gallo pinto, we depart for Matina, to board our riverboat to Tortuguero. Located along the Northeast coast on the lowest and wettest land in the country it gains protection from encroaching civilization by its isolation. These river delta rainforests are home to monkeys, sloths, iguanas, caiman, turtles and an abundance of colorful tropical birds. Our cruise along the peaceful channels gets us there in time for lunch at our lovely Lodge. We spend two full days exploring by boat and seeking the shy jungle creatures and birds that abound in this area.

Mawamba Lodge - 3 nights
Days 5 - 7

Monteverde: This morning we fly back to San Jose and then drive the unpaved roads high into the Cordillera to reach the cloud forest of Monteverde. Giant trees host orchids, bromeliads, ferns, mosses, vines, strangler figs and lianas, and are home to the elusive Resplendent Quetzel. At the Butterfly Farm we get lovely portraits of the colorful residents. The Serpentarium allows safe up-close portraits of colorful eyelash vipers and poison arrow frogs. Tropical flowers are bright spots in the forest, attracting a host of hummingbirds near the photo gallery of Michael and Patricia Fogden. Howler monkeys and three-wattled bellbirds add tropical sound effects. Sunrises and sunsets are often spectacular from this high viewpoint.

Trapp Lodge - 3 nights
Days 8 - 10

Manual Antonio: After breakfast in cool Monteverde, we travel South to Manuel Antonio N.P. on the Pacific Coast. This perfect Eden of warm rain forest and white sand beaches, is home to sloths, coatimundis, agoutis, white-faced Cappuchin and squirrel monkeys, as well as hosts of resident and migrating birds.

Hotel Espadilla - 3 nights
Day 11

San Jose: After a final breakfast we return to San Jose, enjoying lunch enroute. Time to relax, and perhaps some last minute shopping before our farewell dinner at a Tico Restaurant in the capital.

Hotel Torremolinos - 1 night
