Day-by-day Intinerary
Day 01: Welcome to Costa Rica

Welcome at Juan Santamaria International airport, where you will have a private transfer to the hotel in San Jose. Overnight at Grano de Oro Hotel (or similar).

Costa Rica Adventure Day 02: Canyon Tour Hacienda Guachipelin

Early morning domestic flight to Liberia (50 minute flight) and land transportation to the lodge. In the afternoon, glide through the Rio Blanco Canyon on an adrenaline canopy tour adventure, climb the canyon walls or try the Tarzan swing. Overnight at Hacienda Guachipelin (or similar).

Day 03: Horseback Ride Rincon de la Vieja

Today enjoy horseback riding in Rincon de la Vieja National Park on the Pailas trails, visit the 25-meter high Oropendola waterfall with emerald-green pool, and tour a bubbling volcanic mud pool and thermal springs. Overnight at Hacienda Guachipelin (or similar).

Day 04: Hike the Volcano

Get ready for a challenging 5-7 hour hike to the volcano crater. Views are astonishing, with the Caribbean Sea, Lake Nicaragua and the Pacific Ocean visible on clear days. Close to the summit are Jilgueros Lagoon and the highest point--the Von Seebach. Make sure to bring your camera. Overnight at Hacienda Guachipelin (or similar).

Costa Rica Adventure Day 05: Day Free day in Arenal

During the morning, private land transportation to Arenal Volcano. Free afternoon to explore the surroundings. Overnight at Arenal Observatory Lodge (or similar).

Day 06 Mountain Bike Lake Arenal

In the morning, let’s get ready to be on the mountain bike for 3 hours, exploring the picturesque surrounding of Arenal Lake, bordered by rainforest. Overnight at Arenal Observatory Lodge.

Day 07-08 Raft Pacuare River

Today you will be picked up at the hotel for an unforgettable rafting trip on Costa Rica’s famous Pacuare River (Cass III-IV). Prepare for an overnight stay at the wild and beautiful Pacuare Lodge, for two days of adventure and excellent food. Return to San Jose in the evening of Day 8 to relax before your trip home. Overnight at Grano de Oro Hotel (or similar).

Day 09: Return Home

Private transfer to the Juan Santamaría International Airport, where you catch your flight home. End of services.

  • The package tour at Pacuare River is not private; clients will have to share the transportation and guide with other passengers.

  • The international departure tax is $26.00 per person in cash.
  • The maximum luggage weight permitted on domestic flights and small boats is 25 pounds per person.
  • In some cases, extra luggage can be stored at the hotel or in Horizontes office, when the logistics of the program permit.
  • Passengers weighing more than 270 pounds (123 kg.) to pay for two seat due to seat size and weight constraints of the aircraft.

Additional Descriptions
Pacuare River Overnight (Class III - IV)

At the put in Tres Equis you will have a briefing on security and commands by your professional guides. Then, once in the water, you'll experience the exhilaration of riding the waves on this wild and scenic river, which courses through a tropical wilderness of dense vegetation and steep gorges that rise majestically above its banks. Dozens of species of mammals and birds bound in this tropical paradise.

When you arrive at our overnight destination, you will find a jungle oasis nestled in the middle of an enchanting and captivating rainforest. Surrounded by nature in her purest and most primitive state, a two-story jungle lodge houses rustic but comfortable dining facilities on the first floor, and plenty of relaxing hammocks in an open-air second floor lounge. When you feel tired, you'll retire to your very own rustic bungalow, complete with showers, comfortable beds, and clean linen.

Las Pailas at Rincon de la Vieja National Park

Observe steam vents, boiling mud and water, the unmistakable smell of sulfur and very diverse vegetation.

Oropendola Waterfall

A 25 meter high waterfall with emerald-green water. A canyon covered in forest surrounds it. It is at 3 km from the hotel.

Volcanic mud pool and thermal water

It is located at 3 km. from the hotel. It is surrounded by forest and hugged by the Colorado River. Heat surfaces through a crack in the deep geological formations, and boiling mud pools are formed, which emanate a vapor with a smell of sulfur. The water and the volcanic mud have healing properties.
