Office Practices1. Guide Training Seminars:Since 1995, Horizontes has organized and funded workshops aimed at raising the level of professionalism of Costa Rica’s naturalist guides. These weeklong intensive seminars bring together local and international experts in conservation, thematic interpretation and biological sciences for seminars aimed at enhancing their knowledge and practical skills. Horizontes also sponsors guide training workshops with Costa Rica’s National Biodiversity Institute (INBio) www.inbio.org/en/default.html and Costa Rica’s Association for Tourism Professionals (ACOPROT) www.acoprot.org . Additionally, the company, through a joint effort with RARE, Costa Rica’s Neotropica Foundation www.neotropica.org , and the Harvard affiliated World Teach www.worldteach.org, has helped fund guide training scholarships for young people living in rural communities near national parks. 2. Recycling Program:Horizontes’ commitment to conservation goes beyond the country’s wildlands to our own San José office, which was one of the first in Costa Rica to institute a strict recycling and reducing policy; staff gathers for talks on current conservation projects and have organized a committee responsible for “greening” office practices and procedures. Its weekly recycling drive recently gained the attention and support of neighboring homes and businesses, which bring their recycling to its offices each week. |
