The lodge perches on a hill 300 feet above sea level, and has a spectacular view of the Pacific Ocean. Modeled on the traditional thatched roofed buildings that are typical of the area, the enchanting cabins of Lapa Rios are luxury hideaways surrounded by rainforest. Cabins have white stucco walls, balconies with tables and chairs, screened windows to let in ocean breezes, ceiling fans and hot water. The huge rooms gleam with polished tropical hardwoods and bamboo furniture. Two queen beds are topped by colorful tropical sheets and mosquito nets. The showers in each cabin feature an outside glass wall, affording a view of the trees and ocean as one bathes.

The main lodge houses the reception area, the dining room, bar, a small library and a viewing balcony. An extra bonus is the wooden spiral staircase that ascends to a high observation area. Lapa Rios is excellent for bird and animal watching, even right around the lodge. Guests often see scarlet macaws flying near the resort. Join the

hotel’s resident naturalist guide for early morning bird watching walks, beach combing trips and walks on the reserve’s well-kept and extensive nature trails.

This beautiful little jungle lodge is internationally renowned as a model ecotourism project and has been distinguished with accolades such as the British Airways Tourism for Tomorrow Award and the Conde Nast Traveler Ecotourism Award.
